A Guide To CVC Compensation

In May’s Thelander Digest, we examine what the compensation landscape looks like for CVC professionals. We do this by looking at the median total cash for four different positions: CVC unit leader, senior investment professional, senior associate, and associate. 

First, let’s look at how the compensation for each positions is influenced by the filter: total CVC investment capital under team management.

By examining the Thelander data, below are some takeaways: 

  • The total investment capital under management does have an impact on the compensation for all four positions. 
  • The median total cash is higher for CVC units with more than $250 million in total investment capital.

By examining this data, we see the following: CVC unit leader is the position that is impacted the most by layering on the total investment capital under team management filter.The data shows that there is a 31% difference between the median total cash for CVC unit leaders with more than $250 million under management than those with less. For the other three positions, the percent difference is only between 8% to 16%. 
How do you correctly look at CVC compensation?
When examining CVC compensation data, you’ll want to start broad and just look at the job.
